Song title lookup is not available on Windows 98/ME 13. Closing an appendable data disc 1. Reading Audio Discs ------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you create an Audio CD using a CD-RW disc, you will only be able to play this disc on Multi-Read capable CD players. For best results, it is recommended that Audio CDs be created using CD-R media. For DVD players, please consult your DVD Owner's Manual in order to determine which type of media will provide the best results. 2. Delay After Cancel ------------------------------------------------------------------------ A delay of a few seconds to several minutes may result after canceling an operation. The length of delay will depend upon the drive model, type of media used, and the point at which the operation was cancelled. 3. Copying CDs ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Copying Audio CDs may take longer than copying Data CDs on some models of drives. This will vary between models, and can be affected by the quality of the source media. 4. Mastering Limitations ------------------------------------------------------------------------ All versions of IBM RecordNow! can record files that contain file names up to 110 characters in length. Some versions include an advanced data option that lets you change the file recording system to allow longer file names. 5. Media Compatibility ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Some consumer disc players cannot read CD-R or CD-RW media. If you are experiencing problems reading certain types of media, please check your player's documentation to ensure that your device is capable of reading the media. 6. Possible DVD Data Loss with Windows 2000/XP ------------------------------------------------------------------------ IBM RecordNow! allows you to make multiple recordings to a single DVD. However, a serious problem can occur on Windows 2000 and XP systems once the total amount of data or music recorded during multiple jobs exceeds 4 GB. Once the total amount of data or music exceeds 4 GB, only the first recording job placed on the disc will be visible to your computer. This problem does not affect single recording jobs larger than 4 GB. Microsoft has been working to fix this problem. For more information, please visit the Microsoft support center at http://support.microsoft.com and search for document Q329112. 7. Recording Copy Protected WMA Files ------------------------------------------------------------------------ IBM RecordNow! can create a Jukebox CD containing copy protected WMA files, but those files will only play back on the computer used to create them. However, it is not possible to create an Audio CD for your car or home CD player using copy protected WMA files. Refer to the application that created the WMA files for more information on copy protection. 8. Conflicts with Easy CD Creator 4 and 6 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you are using IBM RecordNow! on a system containing Windows 2000 and Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4, you may experience a conflict. You will not encounter this problem if your version of Adaptec software is 4.02 to 5.x. Roxio Easy CD Creator 6 contains a device driver (cdralw2k.sys) that checks drives for updates so often that it causes recording failures and a compatibility problem with IBM RecordNow!. You will be prompted to uninstall Easy CD Creator 6 when IBM RecordNow! is installed. 9. Windows 98/ME does not read multi-session DVDs properly ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Windows 98/ME systems can only read the first session recorded to an appendable DVD disc. If you open an appendable DVD on a Windows 98/ME system and some files appear to be missing, try opening the disc on a computer running Windows 2000 or XP. 10. Copying Files with Multiple Data Streams ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The NT File System (NTFS) used to format modern hard drives includes a feature that allows information to be attached to a file in a way that keeps it hidden from most users. This feature is often used to control access to certain files or to store information used by programmers or system administrators. Files carrying these attachments are often said to have "multiple data streams." IBM RecordNow! cannot copy these attachments. If a file with multiple data streams is burned using IBM RecordNow!, the visible portion of the file will be burned correctly, but the hidden attachment will be lost. Use Simple Backup or Backup MyPC to burn files with multiple data streams. 11. Open files can interrupt a File Archive project ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Do not open files or applications while a File Archive project is in progress. This can cause the project to stop before all the files in the project are archived. 12. Song title lookup is not available on Windows 98/ME ------------------------------------------------------------------------ IBM RecordNow! uses Windows Media Player to gather titles for the songs on your music CDs. This feature is not available on systems running Windows 98 or Windows ME. 13. Closing an appendable data disc ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Track-at-Once Closed option cannot be used to close a data disc that has already been recorded using the Track-at-Once Open option. These advanced data options are not available on all versions of IBM RecordNow!.
