Boot Camp for Computer Tools for Engineers

With the goal of improving the success rate of EGN 2210 students, we are offering a half-day intensive "boot camp". This workshop is open to any student in EGN 2210. The primary focus of the boot camp will be on FORTRAN programming. The learning objectives include:
  1. Be able to enter and compile a short FORTRAN program given to the student
  2. Be able to identify and fix simple syntax errors in an entered FORTRAN program
  3. Learn the basic flow charting symbols
  4. Be able to flow chart simple everyday procedures
  5. Be able to identify if and loop structures in a flow chart
  6. Be able to identify if, loop, and subprogram structures in a FORTRAN program
  7. Be able to write a FORTRAN program to input values, add them, and then output sum
  8. Be able to write a FORTRAN program that uses IF statements
  9. Be able to write a FORTRAN program that uses a DO loop statement
  10. Be able to write a FORTRAN program that uses a user-written function
At the end of the boot camp students will have briefly covered all major topics in FORTRAN and will be better prepared when these topics are covered in the actual course.

Our hypothesis is that the success rate of students finishing boot camp will be higher than those students who do not enroll in boot camp. The EGN 2210 boot camp is funded through the USF Center for Teaching Enhancement.

EGN 2210 boot camp will be offered in ENB 116 on: You should register for one class (either #1 or #2) via email christen@csee.usf.edu. If there are not enough "recruits" between the two classes, we may consolidate into one class.
