We are pleased to present the proceedings of the Ninth International Workshop on Sensor Networks and Systems for Pervasive Computing (PerSeNS 2013), held in conjunction with PerCom 2013. PerSeNS 2013 consolidates the great success of the eight previous editions. It is becoming a premier international forum for discussions on sensor and pervasive networks, systems, and services among researchers, practitioners and students. This allows fostering a different vision of the pervasive computing field, which includes also the unusual interaction and exchange among scientists of different areas.
The workshop this year attracted very high interest among the international community. In response to the Call for Papers we received 33 submissions. This large number of submissions provided an excellent opportunity for a high-quality program. The 42 members of the Technical Program Committee, together with several additional external reviewers, worked hard for providing the basis for the final paper selection. We finally selected 10 papers to be presented in the workshop technical sessions. Overall, the final program is excellent and diverse and covers fundamental issues in sensor networks and systems as well as emerging topics. The large number of submissions and the low acceptance rate of 30% indicates that PerSeNS is now established as a worldwide reference event in the field.
The final result would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of many colleagues. We would like to acknowledge the great contribution of the publicity chair Alessandra De Paola of the University of Palermo (Italy). Special thanks are due to the members of the Technical Program Committee, and to all external referees, for their invaluable help with the paper reviews and overall sense of responsibility and responsiveness under very tight deadlines. Finally, we are very grateful to all authors who honored PerSeNS 2013 by trusting their work to the workshop.
In closing, we kindly welcome you to PerSeNS 2013! We hope you enjoy the workshop and we wish you a pleasant stay in San Diego.
